Terrific bit of writing, Phil — very well done. Almost Robinsonesque(?).
The way I read the story of Joseph and his brothers is unreconstructed Robinson. As I just said to somebody else, I am, and shall always be, little more than Marilynne Robinson’s reply guy.
Whew! Just as I was beginning to regret making the association! To continue: the acuity of perception is shared, certainly. But you add cheekiness and a sly mischief all your own — elements Ms R’s work could occasionally benefit from.
